ClimbingIntermediate
Also known as:Inline Figure Eight
Directional Figure Eight

Description

A figure eight knot tied with the rope doubled back through itself to create a directional loop that angles off from the main line. Load is applied only to the loop, not along the rope.

Common Uses

Creating a directional anchor point in climbing or rigging where load comes from a specific direction.

How to Tie

  1. 1Tie a standard Figure Eight knot near the end of the rope.
  2. 2Pass the standing end back through the loop of the figure eight in the same direction, following the original path.
  3. 3Exit at the point where the loop should angle off from the main line.
  4. 4Dress carefully and tighten. The loop should stand out at an angle from the rope.
