Flemish Bend

Description

A bend formed by tying a Figure Eight knot in one rope and then threading the second rope through it, following the same path in reverse. Creates a strong, easy-to-inspect connection.

Common Uses

Joining two climbing ropes for rappelling; creating a secure bend where inspection is important.

How to Tie

  1. 1Tie a Figure Eight knot in one rope end, but do not tighten.
  2. 2Thread the second rope end through the Figure Eight, following the exact path in reverse.
  3. 3Ensure the second rope lies neatly alongside the first, with no crossings.
  4. 4Pull all four ends to tighten. Leave tails of at least 6 inches.
