Noose

Description

The noose is a simple sliding loop that tightens when pulled on the standing end. It is one of the oldest knot designs and consists of a simple knot tied around the rope's own standing part. The loop constricts around whatever is placed inside it.

Common Uses

Used in temporary fastening, packaging, and as a starting point for many other knots. Not recommended for life-safety or load-bearing applications.

How to Tie

  1. 1Form a small loop near the end of the rope.
  2. 2Pass the working end through the loop.
  3. 3Wrap the working end around the standing part and back through the loop.
  4. 4Pull the standing end to slide the knot and tighten the main loop.
  5. 5Adjust the loop size as needed.
