Description
The marlinspike hitch creates a temporary but secure attachment point that can be used as a lever or handle on a rope. It is tied by wrapping the rope around an object such as a metal spike or bar and then tucking the spike through a loop.

Used in sailing and rigging to create a temporary handle for hauling, tensioning, or as a lever for tightening rope and wire.
How to Tie
- 1Form a bight in the rope.
- 2Pass the bight behind the standing part.
- 3Insert the spike or lever through the bight from the front.
- 4Pull the spike to lever and tension the rope.
- 5Remove the spike to release the hitch.
