Surgeon's Knot

Description
The surgeon's knot is a modification of the reef knot where the first crossing uses two wraps instead of one, creating extra friction that holds the knot in place while the second tie is completed. This extra friction prevents the knot from loosening before it is fully secured.
Common Uses
Commonly used in surgery for ligatures and sutures, and in fishing for tying leaders and attaching hooks where extra security is needed.
How to Tie
- 1Cross the two ends and wrap one around the other twice for the first throw.
- 2Pull tight to secure the double wrap.
- 3Cross the ends again and make a single overhand wrap for the second throw.
- 4Pull tight to complete the knot.
- 5Trim the excess ends close to the knot.
