Munter Mule

Description
A mule knot tied as a backup to a Munter Hitch when the load needs to be locked off. The brake strand is formed into a bight and wrapped around the standing part to create a releasable lock.
Common Uses
Locking off a Munter Hitch after lowering or belaying; creating a releasable belay system.
How to Tie
- 1Tie a Munter Hitch and take the brake strand in the locked position.
- 2Form a bight in the brake strand.
- 3Wrap the bight around the standing part 3-4 times, working toward the carabiner.
- 4Pull the bight through to create a loop that can be pulled to release.
