Description

A hitch used to attach a rope to a cylindrical object where the pull is parallel to the object. Can also be used to transfer load from one part of a line to another.

Common Uses

Attaching a rope to a spar or pole for pulling lengthwise; transferring load between ropes; tensioning a line.

How to Tie

  1. 1Wrap the working end around the pole or standing part twice, working toward the direction of pull.
  2. 2Make a third wrap above the first two, crossing over the standing part.
  3. 3Pass the working end under the third wrap.
  4. 4Pull to tighten. The knot will grip when pulled in one direction.
