Harness Loop

Description

The harness loop is a friction hitch similar to the Prusik but uses a carabiner to assist in the grip mechanism. The carabiner is clipped through the wraps to add friction and prevent the hitch from slipping. It can be adjusted under load more easily than the Prusik.

Common Uses

Used in climbing and rope access for ascending or positioning on a rope, especially when the rope is icy or muddy and a Prusik might slip.

How to Tie

  1. 1Place a carabiner on the main rope.
  2. 2Wrap a cord loop around the main rope and through the carabiner multiple times.
  3. 3The wraps should sit neatly on top of each other.
  4. 4Clip the cord loop into the carabiner.
  5. 5Load the carabiner to engage the friction grip.
