Water Bowline

Description

The water bowline is a variation of the standard bowline that uses a double-loop structure for the initial wrap, making it more secure and resistant to shaking loose. The extra wrap creates additional friction and bulk. It performs better than the standard bowline in wet or slippery conditions.

Common Uses

Preferred in maritime environments where ropes are frequently wet and slippery, and in situations where extra security is needed against accidental loosening.

How to Tie

  1. 1Form a small loop in the standing part, then wrap the working end around to form a second loop alongside the first.
  2. 2Pass the working end up through both loops.
  3. 3Wrap the working end around the standing part.
  4. 4Pass the working end back down through both loops.
  5. 5Pull the standing end to set the knot.
  6. 6Dress so the two loops sit parallel and snug.
