Farmer's Loop

A simple, quick mid-line loop formed by tying an overhand knot in a bight. Not as strong as an Alpine Butterfly but faster to tie and adequate for light loads.

When to Choose This Knot
Choose this knot when you need a loop that can connect to a post, ring, hook, carabiner, handle, or another rope part. Loop knots differ in whether they stay fixed, cinch down, or remain easy to untie after loading.

How to Tie
- 1Form a bight (fold) in the rope at the desired loop location.
- 2Tie an overhand knot using the bight as a single strand.
- 3Pull the bight through to form the loop.
- 4Tighten by pulling both standing ends away from the loop.
Common Mistakes
- Confusing a fixed loop with a noose or running loop.
- Loading the loop from an unintended angle.
- Skipping a backup knot where the application requires one.
