Stevedore Knot

Description

A bulky stopper knot that is larger and more secure than a Figure Eight. The working end is wrapped an extra time around the standing part before passing through the loop.

Common Uses

Large stopper knot for the end of a rope where extra bulk is needed to prevent passing through a hole.

How to Tie

  1. 1Form a loop in the rope near the end.
  2. 2Wrap the working end around the standing part one full turn.
  3. 3Pass the working end through the original loop from the front.
  4. 4Pull both ends to tighten. The knot has a distinctive double-wrap appearance.
