Pile Hitch

Description

A simple, strong hitch for attaching a rope to a post or pile that cannot be slipped over the top. It forms a loop that tightens around the object when tension is applied.

Common Uses

Mooring boats to a piling, attaching rope to a post where end-access is limited.

How to Tie

  1. 1Form two loops facing opposite directions in the end of the rope (a 'wolf's foot' shape).
  2. 2Fold one loop over the other to create a cow hitch shape.
  3. 3Pass both loops over the top of the post.
  4. 4Pull the standing end to tighten the hitch around the post.
