Half Hitch
Also known as:Simple Hitch

Description
The half hitch is the simplest type of hitch, formed by passing the working end around the standing part and through the resulting loop. It is the basic building block for many other hitches and is rarely used alone due to its tendency to slip under load.
Common Uses
Used as a component in more complex hitches, as a temporary light-duty fastening, or as a locking element on top of other knots.
How to Tie
- 1Pass the working end around a post or ring.
- 2Cross the working end over the standing part.
- 3Pass the working end through the loop that forms.
- 4Pull the working end to snug the hitch against the object.
