Double Sheet Bend

Description
The double sheet bend adds an extra wrap of the thinner rope around the bight of the thicker rope, increasing the knot's security. It is used when the ropes being joined have very different diameters or when extra friction is needed to prevent slipping.
Common Uses
Used in sailing and heavy rigging where rope diameters differ significantly, or where standard sheet bend might slip due to slick rope material.
How to Tie
- 1Form a bight in the thicker rope.
- 2Pass the working end of the second rope through the bight twice, wrapping around the standing part each time.
- 3Tuck the working end under its own standing part.
- 4Pull both ropes to tighten.
- 5Dress the knot so both wraps sit parallel and snug against the bight.
